Drying Out the Dam Site at Rahway River Park

November 5th. A Sump Pump is Built.

The area where the new dam will be built needs to be dry. Notice the pipes (first seen in the October 22nd post) that have been sunk below the level of the rest of the site to function as a sump pit. Water collects in the pit, and is pumped out. This will keep the rest of the area dry.

November 8th.

A simple dam has been constructed behind the foot bridge, forming a little pond in the creek. Its purpose is environmental. The water from the dam site is pumped into this little pond, allowing sediments to settle there, and not pollute the creek.
